After years of struggling with his weight, actor Adam Woodyatt has finally managed to shift the pounds – and it’s all thanks to giving up one particular drink.
The 52-year-old, who plays Ian Beale in EastEnders, has managed to lose an impressive three stone after cutting out alcohol from his diet.
Adam, who has played Ian in the BBC soap for over 30 years, has always been open about his battle with his weight and how he has tried various fad diets over the years in a bid to slim down.
But it wasn’t until he gave up drinking that the weight really started to fall off.
Talking about his weight loss journey, Adam said: “I’ve been ups and downs like everybody else but the weight really started shifting when I gave up alcohol three-and-a-half years ago.
“I’d been trying all sorts of different diets over the years and when I finally gave up booze, the weight just fell off. It was amazing.”
Adam, who is married to wife Jane, also revealed that he has more energy now that he’s sober and that he doesn’t miss alcohol at all.
“I don’t miss it at all. I have so much more energy now and I just feel so much better in myself,” he said.
Adam’s weight loss comes as a recent study found that more and more people in the UK are giving up alcohol in a bid to be healthier.
The research, which was conducted by YouGov, found that one in five people in the UK (21 per cent) are now teetotal – up from 15 per cent in 2005.
So, if you’re struggling to shift the pounds, it might be worth giving up the booze for a few weeks and seeing if it makes a difference.
