A 32-year-old man has managed to lose half a stone in weight, despite continuing to eat his favourite foods.
David Jackson, from Hull, says he used to love nothing more than tucking into a takeaway or a Chinese banquet, but decided to make a change after watching a documentary about the health benefits of veganism.
He switched to a plant-based diet in January 2020, and has since lost 14lbs, taking him down to 12st 12lbs.
But David, who is 6ft 2in, insists he hasn’t had to give up any of his favourite foods, and still enjoys the odd Chinese or Indian meal.
“I feel really good – I have so much more energy and I’m never bloated,” he said.
“I was a bit apprehensive about going vegan at first, but I watched a documentary called What the Health on Netflix and it completely changed my mind.
“I did a bit of research and realized that a plant-based diet is not only better for your health, but also for the environment.”
David, who is married to wife Steph, 32, says he initially found it hard to give up dairy products, but has since found vegan alternatives that he enjoys just as much.
“I used to love a bit of cheese, but I’ve found some great vegan cheeses that I actually prefer now,” he said.
“And I don’t miss meat at all – there are so many delicious plant-based dishes out there.
“I’ve always liked cooking, so it’s been great experimenting with new recipes.”
David’s weight loss has also had a positive effect on his mental health, and he says he now feels “happier and more positive” than ever before.
“I was always a bit down about my weight, and it would affect my confidence,” he said.
“But since losing the weight, I feel so much better about myself.
“My wife has been really supportive, and she’s even started eating more vegan meals herself.
“I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about making a change – it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
