It was after a health scare that mum-of-two Alison Hall decided to overhaul her lifestyle and started following a strict weight loss plan which saw her shed an incredible 10 stone.
Alison, who is originally from Belfast but now lives in Weymouth, Dorset, with her husband and two young children, had always been a bit overweight but it was after she developed high blood pressure that she realised she needed to make a change.
“I was 28 years old when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and it was a real shock,” she said.
“I had no idea that I was carrying so much extra weight and it was only then that I realised I had to do something about it.”
Alison started following the popular Slimming World plan and within months she had lost an impressive 10 stone.
“It was a lot of hard work but it was worth it,” she said.
“My blood pressure has now gone back to normal and I feel so much healthier.
“I really believe that if I hadn’t made the decision to lose weight, my life could have been in danger.
“I’m so grateful that I made the decision to change my lifestyle and I would urge anyone who is carrying a few extra pounds to do the same.”
A mother has said that a weight-loss plan has saved her life after she shed 10 stone (140 lb or 64 kg).
After years of struggling with her weight, finally finding the courage to sign up to a weight-loss programme has quite literally saved Rachel Stevens’ life.
The 37-year-old had tried multiple diets over the years but nothing seemed to work for her until she found the one that worked for her, Slimming World.
Rachel, from Leicester, told HuffPost UK Lifestyle: “I was always the larger person in my friendship group and it started to really affect my confidence as I got older.
“I turned to food for comfort and the weight gradually crept on. I was a size 22 and weighed 16st 7lbs.
“I tried so many fad diets over the years – Atkins, Dukan, you name it – and I would lose weight, but as soon as I came off the diet I would pile it all back on plus more.
“I remember being so desperate to lose weight that I even considered surgery but thankfully I never went ahead with it.”
Rachel says that it was only when she had her son, Noah, four years ago that she finally decided to do something about her weight for good.
“I realized that I needed to be around for him, I needed to be healthy for him,” she said.
“I couldn’t keep going the way I was. I had no energy, I was always out of breath and my confidence was at an all-time low.”
Rachel decided to give Slimming World a go after a friend of hers had success with the programme.
“I was really apprehensive about going to my first meeting,” she said. “I thought everyone would be looking at me and judging me but I needn’t have worried.
“Everyone in the group was so welcoming and friendly and it was nice to be around people who were in the same boat as me.”
Rachel says she was “blown away” by how much weight she lost in her first week.
“I thought there must be some mistake when they told me I had lost 9lbs,” she said.
“I was so motivated after that and I just kept going. The weight started falling off me and my energy levels increased.
“It’s been life-changing. I’m now a size 10-12 and I feel amazing. I finally have the confidence to do things that I never would have dreamed of before, like going on rollercoasters and wearing a bikini on holiday.”
Rachel says she would “highly recommend” Slimming World to anyone who is struggling with their weight.
“It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change,” she said. “And it has quite literally saved my life.”
