The Queen is so keen to stay in shape that she limits herself to eating just FIVE items of food for dinner
When it comes to dietary restrictions, the Queen is said to be stricter than her granddaughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.
While Kate is known to have given up alcohol and caffeine during her pregnancy, and is thought to have adopted a mostly low-carb diet since becoming a royal, the Queen is said to have an even smaller repertoire of foods that she eats on a regular basis.
The Monarch is said to limit herself to just five items for dinner, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady.
These include: grilled fish, grilled chicken, lamb, a variety of vegetables and – perhaps surprisingly – fruit.
While she occasionally strays from this simple menu – opting for roast beef on Sundays, for example – the Queen is said to be keen to stick to her healthy eating regime.
And her motivation for doing so is two-fold: not only does she want to stay in shape, but she also believes that eating fewer foods reduces her chances of developing an allergy to them.
The Queen’s pared-back diet is in stark contrast to that of her husband, Prince Philip, who is said to enjoy a more varied and indulgent menu.
According to McGrady, the Duke of Edinburgh likes to start his day with a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, kidneys and baked beans.
For lunch, he enjoys a three-course meal, while dinner is typically a more simple affair of grilled meat or fish and vegetables.
However, while the Queen may be the stricter eater of the two, it seems that her husband is the one who has had to make more of a effort to change his eating habits.
When the couple first got married, the Duke is said to have been a fan of game birds and other meats that were off-limits to his wife due to her dietary restrictions.
As a result, he is said to have had to make a number of adjustments to his diet, including giving up his beloved pheasant and opting instead for chicken or lamb.
When it comes to what the royals eat, there are some strict rules. For one, there is no potatoes, rice or pasta for dinner.
“No potatoes, rice or pasta for dinner!” That’s the rule for royals, according to a report.
The report claims that the rule is because “starchy carbohydrates are generally served at breakfast and lunch, so by dinner time the body is better disposed to digest protein, which is more strengthening.”
Protein is apparently seen as “more strengthening” than carbohydrates.
This strict rule is said to be for all members of the royal household, including Kate Middleton.
