A mother-of-two has achieved an incredible transformation, losing 4.7st in just nine months – and she’s put it all down to going vegan.
Slimmer, who asked to remain anonymous, overhauled her diet after becoming unhappy with her size and health.
The 43-year-old, who was 14st 9lbs and a dress size 16-18 before she started her journey, has since slimmed down to a slinky 9st 12lbs and is a much healthier size eight.
And the best part is that she’s managed to do it without giving up any of her favourite foods, or following a strict exercise regime.
Speaking about her weight-loss journey, Slimmer said: “I’ve always been overweight but it wasn’t until I reached my 40s that I started to feel uncomfortable and unhappy with my size.
“I knew I needed to make a change but I didn’t want to give up all the foods I loved or spend hours in the gym – so I decided to try going vegan.
“I was a bit sceptical at first but after doing some research I decided it was worth a try. I’m so glad I made the switch as it’s completely transformed my life.”
Slimmer, who is originally from the UK but now lives in Spain, made the switch to a vegan lifestyle in January 2019 after watching a documentary called What The Health.
The film explores the idea that a plant-based diet can prevent and reverse chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
She said: “I was really intrigued by the idea that food could be used as medicine, and after watching the documentary I decided to give veganism a go.
“I wasn’t sure how hard it was going to be but I was determined to make it work.”
To make the transition to a vegan lifestyle, Slimmer ditched all animal products including meat, fish, dairy and eggs, as well as any foods that contain them – such as honey and some types of bread.
She also cut out processed foods and refined sugars, opting for a diet that was mostly made up of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy plant-based fats.
Slimmer, who is married with two children aged 13 and 11, said: “The first few weeks were definitely the hardest as I had to totally change the way I was eating.
“I was used to having meat with every meal, so I had to get creative and find new recipes that I could enjoy.
“But after a while it started to become second nature, and now I can’t imagine going back to my old way of eating.”
The mother-of-two also started walking for at least 30 minutes every day, and within a few months she was up to an hour.
She said: “I’ve always been quite lazy when it comes to exercise, but I knew that if I wanted to lose weight I needed to get moving.
“Walking is such a gentle form of exercise that anyone can do, and it’s also really easy to fit into a busy lifestyle.”
Slimmer’s hard work has paid off, and she’s now almost half the woman she used to be.
She said: “I can’t believe how much my life has changed in such a short space of time.
“I’m so much happier and healthier, and I’ve got so much more energy.
“My friends and family are all really proud of me, and I’m even thinking about becoming a vegan chef so I can help others to enjoy the same benefits that I have.”
