It’s been called the “holy grail” of weight loss: a safe, effective way to shed stubborn pounds without having to diet or exercise.
And now, it may be here.
Synthetic fat, also known as “oligofructose enrolled lipids” (OELFs), is a new type of fat molecule that scientists say could be the key to easy weight loss.
In a recent study, published in the journal Obesity, rats who were fed a high-fat diet supplemented with OELFs lost significant amounts of weight and body fat, without changing their eating habits or exercis ng more.
What’s more, the OELF-fed rats were protected from developing obesity-related diseases such as metabolic syndrome and fatty liver disease.
“These findings raise the prospect that a new class of therapeutics for obesity and obesity-related disorders could emerge from a better understanding of the mechanisms by which this synthetic triglyceride [i.e. 3-fat molecule] suppresses weight gain and fat deposition,” the researchers concluded.
The rats in the study were fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks. Half of them were also given OELFs, while the other half were not. The rats that received OELFs gained significantly less weight and fat than the rats that didn’t.
“This [study] is a huge step forward,” said study author and obesity researcher Michael Rosenbaum, MD, of Columbia University Medical Center, in a press release.
“It shows, for the first time, that you can use a single agent to target many of the underlying causes of obesity, including overeating, inactivity, and inflammation.”
Rosenbaum and his colleagues believe that OELFs work by reducing inflammation in the gut, which in turn decreases the body’s9 appetite-stimulating hormone, called ghrelin.
OELFs are made from oligofructose, a type of dietary fiber found in fruits and vegetables. They are also found in significant amounts in chicory root, a common ingredient in many weight loss supplements.
This is not the first study to suggest that oligofructose can help with weight loss. A 2015 review of 11 studies found that oligofructose supplementation can reduce body weight, body fat, and appetite.
While this new study is promising, it’s important to keep in mind that it was conducted in rats, not humans. More research is needed to see if OELFs have the same effect in people.
If you’re interested in trying oligofructose for weight loss, you can find it in many supplements, including this one.
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about a new weight-loss miracle: synthetic fat. This new invention is a man-made form of fat that is said to be indigestible, meaning that it passes through the body without being absorbed. This means that it could potentially help people lose weight by preventing them from absorbing the calories from the fat they eat.
So far, there is only one study that has been done on synthetic fat, and it was done on rats. In the study, the rats were given a diet that was high in fat and calories, and they were also given synthetic fat. The rats that received the synthetic fat ate less food overall and lost weight, while the rats that did not receive the synthetic fat gained weight.
While this study is promising, it is still too early to say whether or not synthetic fat will be effective for weight loss in humans. More research needs to be done before we can know for sure. In the meantime, if you are looking to lose weight, you should focus on eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise. These are the proven methods for weight loss, and they are much more likely to be effective than taking a synthetic fat pill.
