A 60-year-old woman has revealed the “affordable” exercise that burns 715 calories an hour – and says it’s the best way to slim.

The pensioner, who goes by the name Mrs T, took to popular Australian forum Mumsnet to make the claim.

“I’m 60 years old, invested in a good pair of cross-trainers about six months ago, and joined a gym,” she wrote.

“I do HIIT (high intensity interval training) on the cross-trainers for 30 minutes, four times a week.”

HIIT involves alternating between periods of high-intensity and low-intensity exercise – and is said to be one of the most effective ways to lose weight.

Mrs T continued: “I have just completed a fitness assessment at the gym and was amazed to discover that I burn 715 calories in 30 minutes on the cross-trainers.”

She added that the exercise has helped her to slim down – and that she now weighs 10st 7lbs, having previously been a size 16.

“I’m now a size 10,” she said. “I’m not skinny, but I am slim. I don’t deprive myself of anything, but I do eat healthily and I make sure I exercise.”

Mrs T’s post proved popular with other Mumsnet users, with many praising her for her achievement.

“That’s amazing,” one wrote. “I’m going to give it a try.”

Another said: “Good on you – that’s really inspiring.”

A third added: “You look amazing! Well done.”
